Melangel Papillons

     Inixia Dirty Harry at Melangel

In the beginning !

In 1994 when I bought my first Papillon I lived in Brecon in Wales - beautiful scenery but a long way to get to shows !  My children were then just 8 and 10 years old and in an attempt to include them in my hobby I registered the Affix MELANGEL in our joint names - Mrs M & Misses B & J Mann.  Whilst living in Brecon I joined the South Wales Papillon Club and later on became a committee member.

After moving from Brecon in 2000 my lifestyle was nomadic to say the least ! I lived in Llangollen, Wrexham, Brittany FRANCE, Anglesey, Gloucester & Grimsby. Unable to sell my house in France I eventually swapped it for a bungalow in Hinckley and have never been happier !

My own interest in dogs continued with a move into the obedience ring and the training of several Border collies. However after having been involved in a serious car accident in 1980 & being unconscious for 1 month,  the precision needed in the obedience ring proved too difficult and I decided to search for a breed similar but smaller

Papillons fitted the bill !

Once I had decided on the breed, my next job was to find the right dog. I was lucky enough to be offered a Papillon from the INIXIA Kennels and ‘INIXIA DIRTY HARRY’ became my first Papillon and is behind most of the Papillons I show today !

I began showing dogs when I was aged 11, firstly with a Minature Poodle and then with a Beagle which I won in a Competition run by the Sun Newspaper - well it was 1970!!    Encouraged by the members of my local Ringcraft class, I began to attend shows and it was with this young Beagle, Sired by CH Dialynne Gamble, that I had my first experience of showing at Crufts in 1975.

Through helping at a number of local kennels I gained much experience of showing other breeds including Great Danes, Whippets and the ‘Wittekind’  German Shorthaired Pointers.  Always ‘Dog Mad’ I rescued a Sheepdog from Battersea Dogs Home and managed to sneak Twizzle into my rooms at College where I was studying to be a Social Worker !!
